Once admitted to the Conservatory, the student must obtain an Application for the Program of Education of Training (VA form 22-1990) from the department of Veteran Affairs at .

Students who have previously used benefits and are transferring from another university or college will need to obtain a Request for Change of Place of Training (VA form 22-1995) from the department of Veteran Affairs at .

Eligible dependents of veterans should refer to to obtain the correct application form depending on the dates of service of the veteran.

All students must submit the following to the Office of Financial Aid by email, USPS, or in person (please see below for contact information):

1. A copy of the completed application
2. A certified copy of your DD214 (active duty) or an original “Notice of Basic Eligibility” from your reserve unit (reservists)
3. A completed Veterans Educational Benefits Request form. This form will also serve as the application to the Yellow Ribbon Program.

• Step 2: New Students, complete Online Orientation in student portal.

• Step 5: Submit MCC VA Benefit Certification Packet
• Step 6: Complete FAFSA

Select the appropriate chapter to apply for veteren benefits:

•  - Montgomery GI Bill (Active Duty): The MGIB program is available to veterans who served on active duty contributed $1,200 to the MGIB during their first 12 months of active duty service. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following release from active duty.
•  - Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E): Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment is for veterans who have a service-connected disability. To receive services, a veteran must be found both eligible and entitled after applying and meeting with a VR&E Case Manager.
•  - Post 9/11: The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
•  - Post 9/11: The Post-9/11 GI Bill allows service members (officer or enlisted, Active Duty or Selected Reserve), on or after August 1, 2009, to transfer unused education benefits to immediate family members (spouse and children). The service member must have at least six years of service, and commit to an additional four years of service in order to transfer benefits to a spouse or child. Because of the potential impact of this benefit on recruiting and retention, transferability policy is determined by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the military services.
•  - Survivor & Dependent Education Assistance: DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service related condition. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits.
•  - Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve: The MGIB-SR program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.

*Please note that payments (except Chapter 31 and Chapter 33) are sent directly to the student. Payments are sent to students after the month. For example, February’s benefits will be received in March and March’s benefits will be received in April.

You must submit all transcripts during the application process.

Army

The Army uses the AARTS system (New JST Joint Services Transcripts), which automatically captures your academic credits from military training and standardized tests.

Navy and Marines

The Navy and Marine Corps use the SMART system (New JST Joint Services Transcripts), which automatically captures your training, experience, and standardized test scores.

Air Force

The Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) automatically captures your training, experience, and standardized test scores.

Coast Guard

The Coast Guard Institute (CGI) requires each service member to submit documentation of all training (except correspondence course records), along with an enrollment form, to receive a transcript.

The Conservatory is part of the Yellow Ribbon Program and will provide an additional amount which will be matched by the VA. This amount is in addition to what is covered under Chapter 33. 

The certifying official will submit enrollment certifications to the VA electronically immediately after registration or pre-registration. There is flexibility for tuition payment if the check from the VA is delayed.
